A Simple Daily Skincare Routine for Pakistan's Climate

A Simple Daily Skincare Routine for Pakistan's Climate

A skincare routine does not need ten steps to work. Three well-chosen products used consistently will outperform an elaborate routine you abandon after a fortnight. Here is a straightforward structure, adapted for hot, humid, high-UV conditions.

The Three Essentials

Everything else is optional. These three are not:

  1. Cleanser to remove sweat, oil, sunscreen and pollution
  2. Moisturiser to maintain the skin barrier
  3. Sunscreen to prevent UV damage and pigmentation

Morning

Cleanse gently. If you cleansed properly the night before, morning needs little. A gentle wash is enough. If your skin is oily or acne-prone, a targeted cleanser such as Puro Acne Cleanser is oil-free and non-comedogenic.

Moisturise. Yes, even oily skin. Stripping the skin dry prompts it to produce more oil. Lightweight is the key in humidity, not skipping it entirely.

Sunscreen, always. This is the step with the clearest long-term payoff. Apply generously and reapply if you are outdoors. See our guide to sunscreen myths for how much to use.

Evening

Cleanse thoroughly. This is the more important cleanse of the day. Sunscreen, sweat and pollution all need removing properly.

Treat, if you have something to treat. This is where actives belong, whether for pigmentation, acne marks or texture. Introduce one at a time so you can identify what works and what irritates.

Moisturise. Overnight is when the barrier does most of its repair work. For very dry, eczema-prone or cracked skin, something richer such as Hydrate Moisturising Cream is more appropriate than a light lotion.

Adjusting for the Climate

Humidity and heat. Lighter textures work better, and heavy occlusive creams can feel unbearable and clog pores. Save richer formulas for winter or for genuinely dry areas.

High UV. Sun protection carries more weight here than almost anywhere else in a routine. Pigmentation problems are considerably harder to reverse than to prevent.

Air conditioning. Indoor air is drying, which is why skin can be oily and dehydrated simultaneously. That combination confuses people into skipping moisturiser, which makes it worse.

Dust and pollution. A reason to cleanse properly at night, not a reason to scrub. Over-cleansing damages the barrier.

Common Mistakes

  • Changing products every few weeks. Most actives need six to twelve weeks to show results.
  • Using several strong actives at once, then not knowing which caused the irritation.
  • Skipping moisturiser because skin is oily.
  • Applying sunscreen only on obviously sunny days.
  • Physical scrubbing to fix texture, which usually worsens it.

Building Up Slowly

Start with the three essentials for a month. Once that is a genuine habit, add one treatment product for whatever concerns you most, and give it a proper trial before judging.
